Does the cold weather leave you feeling stiff and fatigued, or feeling like you just can’t warm up?  Are these constant shifts from 50 degrees to 30 making you feel run down and under the weather?  This mustard bath recipe is a great way to counteract all that!  The idea of mustard in a bath might sound odd, but it has been used therapeutically since the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans, and has remained a traditional English remedy.  (Read here for more of the general therapeutic benefits of baths.)  Its stood the test of time, so why not give it a try?

Detoxifying Mustard Bath*
1/2 c baking soda
2 Tbsp powdered mustard
2 drops rosemary essential oil
2 drops tea tree OR eucalyptus essential oil

Mustard baths are said to relieve stress, muscle soreness and sleeplessness.  The warmth of the mustard and essential oils helps to open pores, allowing you to sweat out any impurities.

Instructions: Mix together all ingredients and poor unto a clean, dry container.  Add 1/4 c of the mixture under running water as you draw your bath.  Relax for 10-30 minutes.  After your bath, be sure to dress warmly and avoid drafts and chills until your pores are fully closed.  Its a good idea to keep a glass of water on hand during this bath, and be sure to hydrate well afterwards.
